Boulder Beast
Boulder Beast is a trail running event in Lock Haven, PA, organized by PA Trail Dogs. The event offers two distances:
- 24 Miler
- 25K
The course includes a boulder field and a sequence of named trails: Goat Path, Lightning Ridge, Gut Check, Black Diamond, Crossover, Fleming Way, Chestnut Flats, and the Gorge Trail. The 25K route reaches the Rote Overlook before returning toward the finish. The start and finish are at the Castanea Township Fire Company picnic grounds.
Camping and parking are available on site at no charge and do not require reservations. A pre race party and bag pick up take place on the Friday before the event. Registration opens December 16 at 7pm EST on UltraSignup and is limited to the first 600 entrants or until the September 1 registration deadline. The event policy states there are no refunds, bib switches, deferments, selling of bibs, or bandits.
Organizers enforce cut off times at several aid stations to ensure runner and volunteer safety. Key cut offs include the bottom of the boulder field at mile 6.5, the Boy Scout aid station at mile 8, Zindel Park at mile 11, Element 26 at mile 16, and Leadership CC at mile 21 for the longer distance. Specific cut off times differ for the 25K and the longer race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
