Event overview
The Boulder Beast is a trail race near Lock Haven, PA, at 859 Lower Creek Rd. The start and finish are at the Castanea Township Fire Company picnic grounds. The event offers the following distances:
- 24 Miler
- 25K
Registration opens December 16, 2025 at 7:00 PM ET and is limited to the first 600 runners or the September 1 deadline. The entry fee listed for the 25K is $80.00; the longer course fee is $90.00. The event policy states there are no refunds, bib switches, deferments, selling of bibs, or bandits.
Course, cut-offs and logistics
The course includes a boulder field and trails named Goat Path, Lightning Ridge, Gut Check, Black Diamond, Crossover, Fleming Way, Chestnut Flats and the Gorge Trail. Camping space and parking are available on site, free and with no reservations. There is a Friday pre-race party and bag pick-up from 4:00-8:00 PM, and a post-race picnic with food and beverage.
The organizers list strict cut-off points at specific aid stations to ensure finishing in daylight. Runners must meet cut-offs at the bottom of the boulder field (mile 6.5), the Boy Scout aid station (mile 8), Zindel Park (mile 11), Vets+ (mile 16) and Leadership CC (mile 21). If a runner misses the Boy Scout cut-off for the longer course, they will be directed onto the shorter course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
