Thursley Common 10km
This is a 10 km group trail run through Thursley National Nature Reserve in Surrey. The event is organised by Running Adventures and has an entry fee of £16 per person. Parking is available on site.
The reserve covers 325 hectares and contains open dry heathland, peat bogs, pine and deciduous woodland. There are open ponds that support about 20 species of dragonflies and damselflies. Birdlife noted on the route includes Dartford warblers, stone chats, long-tailed tits, goldcrests, red starts, whitethroats and wheatears.
The route is described as the flattest run offered by Running Adventures and includes a section along a boardwalk that recently won the title of 'Britain's Favourite Path'. The run is organised as a group outing rather than a race. Participants should be able to maintain an average pace of 10 min/miles | 6 min/km on trail for prolonged periods and have a suitable level of fitness.
A qualified guide and coach leads the group; a full kit list is supplied in advance. Silva head torches are available for evening runs and Salomon trail shoes can be trialled. Sunset sessions take place in lighter months to run at dusk, while night runs take place in darker months using headtorches in a group setting. An alcohol free beer from Athletic Brewing Company may be offered at the end of the run subject to availability. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
