Thunderbunny Trail Races at Strouds Run State Park
The Thunderbunny Trail Races take place on May 9, 2026 at Strouds Run State Park near Athens, Ohio. Three distances run on the same trail network:
- 50K
- 25K
- 11K
Courses feature a one mile road section at the start before reaching the namesake Thunderbunny Trail, which is about three miles long. The routes loop around Dow Lake and include an overlook of Athens along the Athens Ridge. The event route is listed as roughly 95% singletrack and showcases spring foliage and forest scenery.
The 50K route includes about 3517 feet of elevation gain, approximately 29 miles of singletrack, and several steep climbs on the latter half of the course including Finger Rock, Hope Drive, and the Athens trail from Sells Park. The 25K and 11K provide shorter traverses of the same trails; terrain overviews list 1608 feet of gain and 16.1 miles of singletrack for the 25K, and 610 feet of gain and 5.84 miles of singletrack for the 11K.
The event is held under special use permits from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Parks and Watercraft Division. Entry is limited to 400 combined participants and registration is available online only between December 1, 2025 and May 7, 2026. Packet pick up and camping options are organized at the park and nearby locations. The 50K and 25K use a nine hour course cutoff that begins at the Dow Lake Dam aid station; the 11K has no hard cutoff. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
