About the race
Thunderbunny Trail Races take place on May 8, 2027, at Strouds Run State Park in Athens, Ohio. The event is organized by SEOTR Events and marks the 11th edition, described as Athens County's first and only ultramarathon.
The 50K course starts and ends on the namesake three mile Thunderbunny Trail, includes a loop around Dow Lake, and runs up and over the "Athens Ridge" for a view over the city. The course is reported to be about 95 percent singletrack, with smooth, flowing trail sections through the Appalachian foothills. Organizers describe the 50K as a runnable course that can serve as a first ultramarathon or a trail race for experienced runners.
Two shorter distance options follow the same trail network as the 50K, providing alternatives for participants who prefer shorter laps.
Registration for the event opens December 1, 2026. Additional event information and volunteer sign up are provided by the organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
