Through the Smoke Road Race
The Through the Smoke Road Race takes place on June 6, 2026, at the Mandan Firefighters Training Grounds, 629 24th Ave. SE, Mandan, ND. The event is organized by the Mandan Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 4984 and includes in-person and virtual options.
Events on site include:
- Family Fun 5K, dogs and strollers welcome
- Competitive 5K
- Competitive 10K
- Kids half mile, ages 10 and under
- Virtual race, run or walk from anywhere, options include 5K or 10K
Proceeds benefit the Mandan Firefighters by funding new fitness equipment and advanced training opportunities with leaders from across the United States. The fundraising supports equipment purchase and training intended to improve physical readiness and mental resilience for fire crews.
Race day features a Kids Fire Safety Fun Zone at the starting area offering hands-on activities and education for children. Packet pickup is available at Signature Events, 401 West Main, Mandan.
Competitive 5K and 10K registrations include a swag bag, event T-shirt (size not guaranteed for late registrants), finisher medal, race bib, and professional timing by Pickle Events; results will be available from the timing service. The Family Fun 5K provides one swag bag per group, one event T-shirt per registered participant, and a multi-person discount when participants register together.
Awards for the competitive 5K and 10K will be given to the first place finisher in each age group, separated into male and female divisions. Age groups span 19 and under through 60 and over. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
