Event Overview
The Through the Smoke Road Race is organized by the Mandan Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 4984. It takes place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, starting at the Mandan Firefighters Training Grounds (629 24th Ave. SE). The course winds through the Lakewood area of Mandan.
Distances
The event features four separate races:
- Family Fun 5K (dogs and strollers welcome)
- Competitive 10K
- Competitive 5K
- Kids' half-mile race for ages 10 and under
Event Details
Packet pickup is available on the Friday before the race from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Signature Events (401 West Main, Mandan). Race day registration and packet pickup are also available. Professional timing for the competitive races is provided by Pickle Events, with results posted on their website. The starting area includes a Kids Fire Safety Fun Zone with hands-on activities.
Registration for the competitive 5K and 10K includes a swag bag, an event T-shirt (while supplies last), a finisher medal, and a race bib. The Family Fun 5K registration includes a swag bag per group and one T-shirt per registered participant, with a multi-person discount available.
All proceeds from the event benefit the Mandan Firefighters, funding new fitness equipment and advanced training opportunities. Awards are given to the first-place male and female finisher in each age group for the competitive 5K and 10K races. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
