About the race
The North Dakota Santa Run is a community 5K held in downtown Mandan. Participants age 13 and older run or walk the 5K wearing a Santa suit that is included in the race packet. Well-behaved pets may join the event.
The course starts and finishes on Main Street next to Dykshoorn Park and is highlighted by the Mandan Holiday Lights on Main. Packet pickup is available at the Morton Mandan Public Library community room and at the Mandan Progress Organization office on West Main Street. Participant parking is planned along First Street; parking in the Runnings lot is not allowed. Restrooms are available inside the library and via portable bathrooms.
Adult registrants receive a holiday tote with a Santa suit, a long sleeve runners shirt, and a race bib. Youth registrants age 12 and younger receive a holiday tote with an elf hat, a youth long sleeve shirt, and a race bib. Registration includes a Santa Run medal and a Santa Run t-shirt; Santa suits are guaranteed to the first 500 pre-registrants and sized suits are available on request in limited quantities.
The event offers a virtual option for those unable to attend in person. A portion of sponsorship and registration proceeds benefit Hope Manor and local recovery programs; in 2024 the Santa Run donated $6,000 to Hope Manor. In certain severe weather conditions the run may be converted to a virtual format and participants will still receive their race packet; refunds are not issued when the event is converted.
