Three Towers Ultra - 39 & 55 miles

The event is an ultra run across the West Pennine Moors visiting three towers: Jubilee (Darwen), Rivington and Peel. The route starts at Darwen, just south of Blackburn, and runs through wet moorland with substantial ascent. The course is unmarked, so basic navigation skills are useful. The route also passes close to a military firing range; participants are expected not to stray from marked access lines or paths.

Two distance options are offered:

  • 39 miles / 5890 ft ascent / 12 hour time limit
  • 55 miles / 8350 ft ascent / 17 hour time limit

Organisers provide checkpoints with a variety of food and drinks, Mountain Fuel gels and snacks, and GPS trackers for runners. A kit check will be carried out and a full kit list will be published before the event; organisers state a taped-seams jacket, taped-seams trousers and a bivi bag will be required. A guided recce is planned before the event. Finishers receive a medal and all runners receive a buff. Trail fees for National Trust and Natural England are included and organisers make a donation to Bolton Mountain Rescue Team. The event is run by Tough Trails. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
