The Three Shires Way Ultra & Marathon takes place on Saturday 20 June 2026 and follows sections of the Three Shires Way through rural landscapes and ancient woodlands in Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire. The event is held under UK Athletics rules and is licensed by the Trail Running Association.

Two point-to-point distances are offered:

  • 50 Mile Ultra : point-to-point on the Three Shires Way with a loop around Grafham Water to finish.
  • Marathon : point-to-point marathon route starting at Yelden and finishing at Grafham Water.

Entries are open and priced at £70 for the 50 mile and £40 for the marathon, with a £2 discount for members of UK Athletics affiliated clubs. Minimum ages are 20 for the 50 mile and 18 for the marathon. Race cut-off times are 14 hours for the 50 mile and 8 hours for the marathon, with progressive checkpoint cut-offs. No pacers are permitted. Entries and transfers close seven days before the event.

Support includes professional first aid at start and finish and volunteers at aid stations providing hydration and nutrition. Coaches will run from the finish to the respective start locations; coach places cost £14 and can be booked with an entry. Parking at the finish is available at a reduced price of £5 for the day.

Mandatory kit includes a fully charged mobile phone, a water container able to carry at least 1 litre, a survival blanket, whistle and a cup. Additional mandatory items for the 50 mile race include a long-sleeved base layer or fleece, reflective top or bands, hat and gloves, and a headtorch. A waterproof jacket is suggested.
