About the race

The Foxton Hound Ultra takes place on Saturday 14 August 2027 around Market Harborough, following large sections of the Harborough Round long distance footpath through Northamptonshire and Leicestershire. Two distance options are offered:

  • 100k long distance ultra across mixed terrain.
  • 50k long distance ultra across mixed terrain.

Both routes pass through villages and places of historical interest, including Houghton on the Hill, West Haddon, Coton, Stoke Albany, Foxton Locks, Naseby Battle Field and the Kelmarsh Tunnel on the Brampton Valley Way. The course uses parts of several long distance trails such as the Jurassic Way, the Leicestershire Round, the Macmillan Way, the Midshires Way, the Richard the Third Trail and the Uppingham Round.

The event is licensed by the TRA and held under UKA rules. Entries are priced at £75 for the 100k and £50 for the 50k, with a £2 discount for members of clubs affiliated to UK Athletics. Minimum entry age is 20 on race day. Entry transfers close seven days before the event. The 100k has an 18 hour cut-off with progressive checkpoint cut-offs from Checkpoint 3; the 50k has a 12 hour finish cut-off and no checkpoint cut-offs.

On-course support includes volunteers at seven checkpoints on the 100k (three for the 50k), with food and hot drinks at Checkpoint 4 (Hallaton) and Checkpoint 7 (Sibbertoft) on the 100k. Aid stations provide a mix of fruit, crackers, crisps, biscuits, sweets, Tailwind, water, Coke and options for vegetarian and vegan runners. The races are cupless so runners must bring their own cup.

Navigation materials include downloadable GPX files and written route instructions; runners should be prepared to self-navigate as markers may be removed or tampered with. Tracking and timing are provided by Open Tracking and trackers are issued at registration. Free guided recces are offered in advance. Pacers are permitted on the 100k from Checkpoint 5 only. Some locations on course restrict crews and spectators, for example Cottesbrooke village and the Elkington water station. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
