Foxton Hound Ultra

The Foxton Hound Ultra offers two trail ultramarathon distances that follow much of the Harborough Round and surrounding long-distance footpaths through countryside and villages around Market Harborough. The routes pass places of interest such as Houghton on the Hill, West Haddon, Coton, Stoke Albany, Foxton Locks, the Naseby Battlefield and the Kelmarsh Tunnel on the Brampton Valley Way.

Distances:

  • 100k ultramarathon
  • 50k ultramarathon

Both races are licensed by the TRA and held under UKA rules. Entries are priced at £75 for the 100k and £50 for the 50k, with a £2 discount for runners who are members of a UK Athletics–affiliated club. Minimum age on race day is 20 years. Entries and transfers close seven days before the event. The 100k has an overall cut-off of 18 hours with progressive checkpoint cut-offs from Checkpoint 3; the 50k has a 9-hour finish cut-off and no checkpoint cut-offs. Pacers are permitted on the 100k from Checkpoint 5.

Navigation support includes downloadable GPX files and written route instructions, but runners are expected to self-navigate as course markings may be removed. On-course support includes professional first aid and volunteers at checkpoints: seven aid stations on the 100k and three on the 50k, with hot food at selected checkpoints and vegetarian/vegan options. Mandatory kit includes a charged mobile with race emergency numbers, 1 litre water capacity, survival blanket, head torch with spare batteries (essential for Kelmarsh Tunnel), waterproof jacket, whistle, long-sleeved base layer or fleece, a personal cup, and reflective top, hat and gloves for the 100k. Trail shoes are advisable.

Free guided recces are offered and must be booked. All finishers receive an event medal; prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers. Race HQ is at Winwick Hall, with ample parking. Free digital race photos will be available after the event. The event supports local foodbanks with an option to donate when entering.
