Foxton Hound Ultra
The Foxton Hound Ultra offers two off-road distances that follow much of the Harborough Round long distance footpath around Market Harborough, passing through Northamptonshire and Leicestershire and visiting local villages and points of interest.
Distances
- 50k
- 100k
Both routes use sections of long-distance footpaths such as the Jurassic Way, Leicestershire Round, Macmillan Way, Midshires Way, Richard the Third Trail and the Uppingham Round. Routes include varied terrain and notable features such as Foxton Locks, the Naseby Battle Field and the Kelmarsh Tunnel on the Brampton Valley Way. GPX files and written route instructions are available and runners are expected to be prepared for self-navigation despite course markings.
The event is licensed by the TRA and held under UKA rules. Minimum age for entry is 20 years on race day. The 100k has an 18 hour cut-off with progressive checkpoint cut-offs from Checkpoint 3; the 50k has a 9 hour finish cut-off and no checkpoint cut-offs. Pacers are permitted on the 100k from Checkpoint 5. No crews or spectators are permitted in Cottesbrooke village or at the Elkington water station.
Tracking and timing use trackers issued at registration and returned after the race. On-course support includes professional first aid and volunteers staffing seven aid stations on the 100k and three on the 50k, with hot food at selected checkpoints.
Mandatory kit must be carried and includes a fully charged mobile phone with race emergency numbers, at least 1 litre water capacity, survival blanket, head torch with spare batteries, waterproof jacket, whistle, long sleeved base layer or fleece, and a personal cup. Additional kit requirements apply for the 100k. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
