Both routes pass through or near Houghton on the Hill, West Haddon, Coton, Stoke Albany, Foxton Locks and the Naseby Battle Field, and both include passage through the Kelmarsh Tunnel on the Brampton Valley Way. The course also intersects with long-distance paths such as the Jurassic Way, the Leicestershire Round, the Macmillan Way, the Midshires Way, the Richard the Third Trail and the Uppingham Round. GPX files and written route instructions are provided; runners are expected to be able to self-navigate in case markings are removed.

The races are licensed by the TRA and held under UKA rules. Minimum age on race day is 20. The 100k has an overall cut-off of 18 hours with progressive checkpoint cut-offs from Checkpoint 3; the 50k has a 9 hour finish cut-off. Pacers are permitted on the 100k from Checkpoint 5. No crews or spectators are allowed in Cottesbrooke village or at the Elkington water station on the 50k route.

On-course support includes professional first aid at start and finish, volunteers at aid stations (7 on the 100k; 3 on the 50k), hot food at selected checkpoints and vegetarian and vegan options. Mandatory kit lists are specified and include a charged mobile phone, 1 litre water capacity, survival blanket, head torch with spare batteries, waterproof jacket, whistle and long sleeved top. Prizes are awarded to the top three men and women in each race and all finishers receive a commissioned medal. Free digital race photos are provided after the event.
