Thieveley Pike Fell Race
The Thieveley Pike Fell Race is an AS-category fell race of 4.3 miles (about 7 km) with approximately 1310 ft (400 m) of ascent near Cliviger, near Burnley. The course is flagged and marshaled and follows moorland, fields and bridleways.
Registration for the race is at St John’s Church Hall, Holme, Chapel-in-Cliviger (BB10 4SU). Entry fees are stated as £6 for FRA members and £8 for non-members; the same fees apply for entries on the day. There will be no junior races for 2025.
A kit decision is made on race day; participants are asked to bring full waterproof body cover that covers the torso from head to ankles as this may be required.
The route starts in a field beside the Ram Inn and follows the Mary Towneley Loop to Scout Farm, then a short steep climb up to the moor. The course continues across rough moorland to the Pike and a trig point, with a fast grassy descent followed by a shorter technical drop to a fell gate. After running through a young plantation a final steep section returns runners toward a ruin, then a grassy descent and a bridleway lead back to the finish in the start field.
Prizes are awarded to the first five men and first five ladies, first U23 man and first U23 lady (ages at 31 December 2021), and veterans are awarded in 10-year age categories. Parking guidance requests keeping the school frontage clear for emergency vehicles and avoiding blocking properties or the Ram Inn car park unless using the pub.
