The Winter Green Man Ultra
The Winter Green Man Ultra follows the Community Forest Path around Bristol and uses the same route as the Green Man Challenge. The winter event is offered in two formats on the same day, using the same checkpoints and finish but different start locations. Both distances run the course in an anti-clockwise direction.
- 45 miles / 72 km, full loop, 3100 ft, four checkpoints, 12 hour cut-off
- 30 miles / 48 km, partial loop, 1900 ft, two checkpoints, 9 hour cut-off
All competitors must register online and will receive a race number and chip timing tag. Numbers and chips must be clearly displayed and may be checked at the start. Entrants must be aged 20 or over. The course is self-navigation; downloadable GPX and written directions are provided. Timelords lead groups aiming for target finish times (9, 10, 11 and 12 hours) and offer navigation and pacing.
Checkpoints provide water and basic food items. Competitors must carry mandatory kit, including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, Ordnance Survey Maps 155 and 167 or printed directions, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone and a first aid kit. Checkpoint cut-off times are enforced and failure to pass checkpoints or to follow the prescribed route may result in disqualification.
Finishers receive a bespoke Green Man T-shirt, a medal and a signed certificate; additional buckles are awarded for completing both the summer and winter 45 mile events in the same year based on cumulative time. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
