The Winter GMU
The Winter Green Man Ultra is an autumn/winter edition ultra running event on Saturday 7th March 2026 around Bristol. The event is organised by Ultra Running Limited and uses the Community Forest Path. Both distances use the same course and finish at Ashton Park School; the shorter route starts at the Keynsham area (checkpoint two of the 45 mile route).
- 45 miles / 72 kilometres
- 30 miles / 48 kilometres
Course, checkpoints and rules
The course is self-navigated and the winter route is run anti-clockwise. The 45 mile race lists 945 metres ascent and descent and has a 12 hour overall cut-off. The 30 mile race lists 580 metres ascent and has a 9 hour cut-off. The event has checkpoint provision - four checkpoints for the 45 mile race and two for the 30 mile race - offering water and a selection of food. The race is cup-free so competitors must bring a reusable cup.
Mandatory kit checks are enforced. Required items include a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, Ordnance Survey maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit. Finishers receive a technical T-shirt, a bespoke medal and a signed certificate; trophies are awarded for podium places in each category. Timelord pacers are provided to assist navigation and pacing.
