The MTC Winter Green Man Ultra
The Winter Green Man Ultra is a winter edition of the Green Man Ultra held around the Community Forest Path near Bristol. The event offers self navigated routes with GPX files and written directions, chip timing, and designated pacers running to 9, 10, 11 and 12 hour targets. The winter course is run anti clockwise and is often muddy; the summer event uses the same course in the opposite direction and is firmer underfoot.
Both distances share the same checkpoints and finish location, with four staffed checkpoints on the full loop and two for the shorter route. Checkpoints provide water, squash, cola and a selection of snacks; hot food is available at the finish. The race is cup free so competitors must carry a reusable cup. Mandatory kit is required and will be checked; examples include a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, printed directions or maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit. Entrants must be at least 20 years old. Finishers receive a bespoke Green Man technical T shirt, a bespoke Green Man medal and a signed certificate. Completing both the winter and summer 45 mile events in the same year also earns a cumulative GMU buckle tiered by combined time. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
