Event information

The Winter Green Man Ultra is an annual ultra running event on Saturday 7 March 2026, organised by Ultra Running Limited. The event is held on the Community Forest Path around Bristol and offers two distances:

  • 45 miles / 72 kilometres
  • 30 miles / 48 kilometres

The 45 mile race starts and finishes at Ashton Park School. The 30 mile race starts at the Lock Keepers in Keynsham and finishes at Ashton Park School. Entry options include solo and paired entries and there are non-refundable entry fees with transfer and defer options.

Course, logistics and rules

Both races run the course in an anti-clockwise direction. The 45 mile event lists 945 metres (about 3100 feet) of ascent and a 12 hour cut-off. The 30 mile event lists 580 metres (about 1900 feet) of ascent and a 9 hour cut-off. The 45 mile course has four staffed checkpoints; the 30 mile course uses two checkpoints. Checkpoints supply water, squash, cola and a selection of food items; the race is cup-free so competitors must bring a reusable cup. Toilets at checkpoints are portaloo facilities or outdoor pub toilets and competitors who have started the race cannot use indoor checkpoint toilets.

The course is self-navigation with GPX files and written directions available. Timelords run to guide groups at 9, 10, 11 and 12 hour targets and can provide navigation assistance. Mandatory kit checks are enforced; required items include a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, Ordnance Survey maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit. Entrants must meet the minimum age requirement and carry all mandatory kit to start. Finishers receive a technical T-shirt and a bespoke medal.
