The Winter Gmu
The Winter GMU is a challenging ultra marathon held annually around the City of Bristol, featuring 30- and 45-mile distances on a scenic loop following the Community Forest Path. The winter edition runs the course anti-clockwise, often presenting muddy and tough conditions, contrasting with the firmer summer event run in the opposite direction. The 45-mile race starts near Ashton Park School, with four well-stocked checkpoints offering food and drink, while the 30-mile race begins at Keynsham.
Participants receive bespoke medals and technical t-shirts, with hot food available at the finish. Chip timing, pacers targeting 9 to 12-hour finishes, and strict cut-off times ensure a well-organized race. The event supports Avon Wildlife Trust and emphasizes self-navigation, mandatory safety gear, and environmental respect. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
