The Running Dead 5K Run/Walk
The Running Dead 5K Run/Walk is a themed five-kilometre event held on October 24, 2026, at Shortfront Park in Patchogue, New York. The event offers both in-person and virtual participation; virtual entries may upload times and photos from October 24 through November 1. The course is a USATF certified 5K.
The event uses a human versus zombie format: humans receive a one minute head start, and delayed-start zombie participants attempt to capture flags from human runners. Awards include overall and age-group placings for humans and zombies, prizes for the participant who captures the most flags, best zombie and Halloween costume awards, and an award for best dog costume.
Amenities listed for the event include a post-race award ceremony, beer for those 21 and older, refreshments, prize drawings that require presence to win, and on-course water and toilet facilities. Early packet pickup is available the evening before the event and same-day in-person pickup is available at Shorefront Park; virtual bibs are mailed the Monday prior to the event. T-shirts are planned for the first 200 registrants, subject to availability. Registration fees are non-refundable. Proceeds benefit the Euclid Hose Company of the Patchogue Fire Department.
