The Running Dead 5K Run/Walk - Patchogue, NY
The Running Dead 5K Run/Walk is a themed community event held on October 24, 2026 at Shortfront Park in Patchogue, New York. The event offers both in-person and virtual 5K run/walk options and uses a USATF certified 5K course. Registration includes in-person and virtual choices with fees that vary by registration type and timing. The first 200 registrants are eligible for a race T-shirt while supplies last.
Participants choose to register as humans or zombies. Humans receive a one minute head start at the beginning of the race; zombies start later and try to capture flags worn by human runners. Awards are given for top overall finishers, top age group finishers for both humans and zombies, best zombie and Halloween costumes, the zombie who captures the most flags, and best dog costume. A post-race award ceremony is scheduled and there are drawings for prizes; winners generally must be present to collect drawn prizes.
Event amenities listed by the organizer include refreshments and beer for those 21 and older, on-course water and toilet facilities, and same-day finish line photos and results. Early packet pickup is offered the day before the event at a local pickup location and race-day pickup is available at the park.
