Event
The Tough Cookie 8K Trail Race takes place on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park, NY. The event is organized by the Northport Running Club and includes a raffle and a holiday cookie fest. Slow runners and fast walkers are explicitly welcome. Professional timing is provided by SRC Timing Services. The online entry fee shown is $33.74 (includes a $3.74 fee); the price increases after December 4, 2025. Day-of registration is available for $35 cash or check. All net proceeds are donated to local charities.
Course and logistics
The course is a trail route of 8K (4.97 miles), mostly on trails. The route begins at sea level and later passes cliffs with views of the Long Island Sound. The course was modified this year to add more trail and to finish closer to the awards area. Cookies are provided at water stops and after the race. Bib pickup and late registration are available on race morning from 8:30 to 9:45 am. All participants receive a fleece headband while supplies last. Runners are asked to place their bib on the chest or abdomen facing front.
Awards and charity
Awards are given to the top three finishers in Open Male and Female, Masters Male and Female, and the top three finishers in 5-year age groups. Past charity recipients include the Long Island Greenbelt Trail Conference, the Ecumenical Lay Council Northport Food Pantry, Opening Word Program, and Island Harvest.
