Event overview
SRC Presents: A Backyard Ultra is scheduled for December 13-14, 2025 at Blydenburgh County Park in Hauppauge, NY. The event includes a main Backyard Ultra and a separate one-lap event called The 1 Lapper. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Long Island Greenbelt Trail Conference.
The Backyard Ultra format requires competitors to complete repeated laps of 6706 meters (4.167 miles). Each lap must be finished within one hour; the event continues until one participant completes a lap that no other runner can match. All competitors must start together at the hour and may not leave the course during a lap except for restroom use. Night running requires specific safety gear.
Course, logistics and rules
Daytime and nighttime loops use different routes. The daytime course mixes single-track and bridle-path trails with about 135 ft of elevation change and two wooden foot bridges. The nighttime course uses road and bridle-path sections with about 140 ft of elevation change. Both courses are marked with flags and arrows.
There is a common aid station at the start/finish area stocked with typical ultra items and a help-yourself water station on course. One crew member may assist at the start/finish area; no on-course crew support or pacers are allowed. Bibs may be picked up early at Smithtown Running Company on the two days before the event and at the start/finish area on race morning. Required night safety gear includes a headlamp with spare batteries, a reflective vest, and a flashing light. Milestones, a DNF souvenir magnet for all non-finishers, and a unique finisher award are part of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
