Event overview
SRC Presents: A Backyard Ultra is a multi-hour ultrarunning event at Blydenburgh County Park in Hauppauge, NY on December 13-14, 2025. The event includes two options: the main Backyard Ultra and a single-lap event called The 1 Lapper. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Long Island Greenbelt Trail Conference.
- A Backyard Ultra - 4.167 miles per lap (6706 meters)
- The 1 Lapper - one lap of the same course
Course, format and logistics
The Backyard Ultra format requires competitors to run the set lap distance each hour and continue until one runner completes a full loop that no one else can match. Key rules: all competitors must start together, each loop must be completed within one hour to count, no on-course personal aid or pacers, and no artificial aids such as trekking poles. Nighttime running requires a headlamp with spare batteries, a reflective vest, and a flashing light.
The event uses a Day Loop and a Night Loop. The daytime course mixes single track and bridal path with root and sand sections, two wooden foot-bridge crossings and about 135 ft of elevation change. The nighttime course mixes road and bridal path with about 140 ft of elevation change. The start/finish area has a common aid station with food and drink items; there is no aid station on the course. Parking and staging are organized around the picnic area, boat launch and dog park lots. Participants receive milestone stickers and a DNF souvenir; the single finisher receives a unique finisher award. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
