Event overview
SRC Presents: A Backyard Ultra is scheduled for December 13-14, 2025 at Blydenburgh County Park in Hauppauge, New York. The event includes the main Backyard Ultra and a separate "1 Lapper" event that covers a single lap of the course. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Long Island Greenbelt Trail Conference.
A Backyard Ultra format requires competitors to complete repeated laps of 4.167 miles (6706 meters). Each completed lap allows the runner to start the next lap; runners who do not complete a lap in the allowed time are recorded as DNF. The event continues until a single competitor completes a full lap that no one else can match.
Course, rules and logistics
The daytime loop is a mix of single-track and bridle-path trails with roots, sand sections, fallen trees, two wooden foot-bridge crossings and about 135 ft of elevation change. The nighttime loop uses road and bridle-path trails with sand sections and about 140 ft of elevation change. Both loops will be marked with flags and arrows.
Night runners must carry required safety gear for after-dark running, including a headlamp with spare batteries, a reflective vest and a flashing/strobe light. A common aid station at the start/finish area will offer typical ultramarathon foods and NeverSecond hydration products. One crew member may assist at the start/finish area only; no on-course crew support or pacers is allowed. Parking and staging are organized in the park picnic area and nearby lots.
