Event Overview
The Ripper - Sunrise to Sunset is a timed distance event taking place on May 8, 2027, in Pocomoke, Maryland. The event is held at the Pocomoke YMCA and is organized by Algonquin Ultras. Participants have a total of 14 hours and 1 minute to cover as much distance as possible, starting exactly at sunrise.
The course consists of a 3.3-mile loop. Approximately 95% of the route is on trails, featuring mostly single-track sections with some wider areas. The terrain includes rolling mountain bike hills and rugged, root-covered sections that require focus and agility. Only fully completed laps are counted toward a runner's total distance. In the event of a tie in lap count, the participant who finished their final loop the fastest is ranked higher.
Logistics and Support
A well-stocked aid station is located at the pavilion, providing water, nutrition drinks, soda, and various sweet and salty snacks. Runners have access to YMCA facilities, including bathrooms and showers. Participants can set up their own rest areas in a beach-style layout in an open field to store gear.
Specific event rules include:
- Registration is open for a 14-hour timed race.
- Participants may start and stop at any time during the event.
- The race proceeds rain or shine.
- Awards are presented to the top three men and top three women.
- No pacers or dogs are allowed on the course.
- Runners must stay on the established course and keep their bib numbers visible.
The event is organized by a nonprofit dedicated to the maintenance and expansion of the Delmarva trail system. All participants receive a keepsake swag item and a finisher's recognition piece. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
