The Ripper - Sunrise to Sunset
The Ripper is a timed distance event held at the Pocomoke YMCA in Pocomoke, MD. Runners complete repeated laps of a 3.3-mile trail loop for a total running window of 14 hours and 1 minute, covering as much distance as they can during that period. Only fully completed laps count toward a runner’s total; if two runners complete the same number of laps, the runner who finishes the final lap faster is ranked higher.
The course is approximately 95% trail, mostly single-track with some wider sections. Terrain includes rolling mountain bike hills and rugged, root-covered surfaces that require focus and agility. Aid is provided at a pavilion and includes water, Tailwind Nutrition, soda, sweets, and salty snacks. YMCA facilities including bathrooms and showers are available to participants. Runners set up individual rest areas in a beach-style layout on a field.
The event proceeds in varying weather conditions; there is no rain date and cancellation will occur only under extreme circumstances that prevent EMS and support staff from functioning. If the event is canceled under those circumstances, there are no refunds or credits.
Participants receive a keepsake swag item and a finisher recognition piece. Awards are given to the top three men and top three women. Event rules include visible bibs, no bib transfers or bandit runners, pack in pack out, stay on the established course, no pacers, no deferrals or refunds, no dogs, and crews may remain at runners’ rest areas but are not permitted on the course.
