The Ripper - Sunrise to Sunset

The Ripper is a timed distance event held at the Pocomoke YMCA where participants run laps from sunrise to sunset on a mostly off-road loop. Runners repeat a 3.3 mile course for about 14 hours; only fully completed laps count toward each participant’s total.

The course is roughly 95% trail, primarily single-track with some wider sections. It includes rolling mountain bike hills and rugged, root-covered terrain that requires attention and agility. Aid is provided at a pavilion with water, Tailwind Nutrition, soda, sweets, and salty snacks. YMCA facilities including bathrooms and showers are available to all participants.

Runners may set up a personal rest area in a beach-style layout in the adjacent field. Crews may remain at those rest areas but are not allowed on the course. Event procedures include visible bib numbers, no bib transfers, no pacers, no dogs, and a pack in, pack out policy. If a runner withdraws they must return their bib to the start/finish crew.

All participants receive a keepsake swag item and a finisher recognition piece. Awards are given to the top three men and top three women. In the event of a tie in completed laps, the runner who finishes the final loop the fastest will be ranked higher. The event proceeds in all weather unless extreme conditions prevent emergency and support services from operating. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
