The Ripper - Sunrise to Sunset
The Ripper is a timed trail running event held on May 8, 2027 in Pocomoke, MD at the Pocomoke YMCA. It is a 14 hour timed distance event in which participants complete repeated laps of a 3.3 mile loop. Only fully completed laps count toward each runner's total distance. Runners may start and stop as they choose within the event period. In the case of a tie, the runner who completes the final counted lap faster will be placed higher.
The course is approximately 95% trail, mostly single track with some wider sections, and includes rolling mountain bike hills and root covered terrain. The surface requires attention and agility to avoid falls. Support includes a well stocked aid station at the pavilion offering water, Tailwind Nutrition, soda, sweets, and salty snacks. YMCA facilities including bathrooms and showers are available to participants.
Runners claim a personal rest area in a beach style layout in the field where crews may remain off course. Event rules specify visible bib numbers, no bib transfers, no pacers, no dogs, pack in pack out, and staying on the established course. There is no rain date; the event proceeds in rain or heat unless extreme circumstances prevent emergency or support operations. Awards are given to the top three men and top three women. The event is organized by Algonquin Ultras, a community driven, volunteer supported nonprofit involved with Delmarva trail systems. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
