The Rings - Marathon & Ultra
The event, organised by UK Training Club, is held at Adur Recreation Ground in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex. It offers the following distances:
- Marathon
- 50K Ultra
The route begins on the banks of the River Adur and follows a riverside path before rising onto the South Downs Way. The course passes through the grounds of Wiston Estate, climbs to Chanctonbury Ring and Cissbury Ring, then descends through Coombes Farm and returns to Shoreham. The 50K follows the same loop with additional sections along the South Downs Way ridge. The route description notes wide ridge views that can reach as far as Brighton and the Isle of Wight.
Course marking, facilities and logistics
The course is fully measured and chip timed. It will be marshalled and marked with pink marker flags, pink UKTC arrow signs and pink hanging ribbon markers. Aid provisions include themed, fully stocked aid stations, water at various points and on-site toilets. Finishers receive bespoke medals and the top three finishers receive trophies; a finishers t-shirt is available to purchase. Food trucks and seating are listed for spectators. Terrain is described as pathway and very light trail. Local access options include Shoreham-by-Sea train station, a nearby bus route (Route 700), riverside walking and cycling paths, and several public car parks within a short walk of the recreation ground.
