South Downs Way 50®

The South Downs Way 50 is a 50 mile (81 km) foot race along the South Downs Way National Trail, running from Worthing to Eastbourne. The route begins with about six miles of chalk footpaths and bridleways, climbing to join the South Downs Way at Chanctonbury Ring. The remainder of the course follows the South Downs Way for the final 44 miles of the South Downs Way 100 route and finishes with a lap of the athletics track in Eastbourne.

The race includes around 5700 feet (1750 m) of climb and is composed of roughly 85 percent trail and 15 percent road. The course is waymarked with South Downs Way acorn markers plus event tape and arrows; there are several road crossings that runners must negotiate. The event provides seven aid stations along the route, full medical support and a marked course, and is held under a UK Athletics permit (permit number pending). Runners must finish within a 13 hour cut off and should expect kit checks.

Entry information specifies a minimum age of 20 and entry windows; entries open on 26 April 2025 and close on 14 March 2026 on the event entry system. Crew and pacers are not permitted on course; spectators may accompany runners only on the finishing lap at the track. Finishers receive a medal and prizes are awarded for overall and veteran category placings. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
