South Downs Way 50

The South Downs Way 50 is a 50 mile foot race along the South Downs Way National Trail held on 11 April 2026. The route begins in Worthing and finishes with a lap of the athletics track at Eastbourne Sports Club. The event is the 14th annual running and forms the first race in the 2026 50 Mile Grand Slam series.

The course starts on six miles of chalk footpaths and bridleways to join the South Downs Way near Chanctonbury Ring, then follows the SDW to Eastbourne with a reported total ascent of about 5700 feet. Terrain is mainly trail with exposed chalk sections that can be slippery when wet. The race is marked with national trail posts, tape and Centurion arrows, and includes multiple well stocked aid stations and full medical support. Hot drinks are available at some checkpoints and hot food at the finish.

Entrants must meet a minimum qualification standard and the minimum age is 20. Runners must complete the course within a 13 hour time limit and will be subject to additional cut offs at aid stations. Crew and pacers are not permitted on course; friends and family may join a runner on the finishing lap. Mandatory equipment is required and missing items may incur a time penalty.
