The Pemberton 24
The Pemberton 24 is a 24-hour running event held at Pemberton Park in Salisbury, Maryland. The event consists of repeated 5K loops: a new 5K begins each hour, and participants may run any number of those 5Ks during the 24-hour period. The event is offered for solo runners and for four-person teams and is hosted by Algonquin Ultras Inc. and Wicomico County.
An aid station at the start/finish area will offer cold water, snacks, gels, sodas, and other items. Runners are encouraged to set up a camp area near the course to rest, sleep, and interact with other participants and volunteers between runs. Nighttime running requires a headlamp. Runners must provide their own hydration and are asked to bring a chair for rest periods.
Traditional chip timing is not used. Scoring awards one point for each completed 5K, plus one bonus point for each 5K completed between midnight and 4:00 AM. Placing points are awarded per 5K as follows: first earns four points, second three, third two, and fourth and fifth one each. A bonus of ten points is awarded for completing all 24 5Ks. In case of a tie a 0.6 mile sprint decides the winner. Teams accumulate combined scores from members and follow the same placing points system.
Race rules include visible bibs for credit, no bib transfers or bandits, no littering, staying on course, no pacers or crew on course, crews allowed at the start/finish area only, no early or late starts, and no animals on course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
