The Original Swanage Triathlon Festival
The Original Swanage Triathlon Festival takes place in the seaside town of Swanage, located within the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset. The event base is situated at Sandpit Field on Shore Road. Participants compete in an area known for its natural environment, featuring views of the Purbeck Hills and the local coastline.
The swim discipline is conducted as an open water swim in Swanage Bay. Following the swim, the cycling portion of the event includes several hill climbs, such as the ascent and subsequent descent of Kingston Hill. The run course proceeds north out of Swanage town, leading participants onto Ballard Down Ridge, which consists of chalk downland.
A variety of multisport distances and formats are available:
- Standard Triathlon: 1500m swim, 38km bike, and 10km run.
- Sprint Triathlon: 750m swim, 23km bike, and 6.5km run.
- Standard Aquabike: 1500m swim and a 38km to 40km bike.
- Aquathlon: 750m swim and 6.5km run.
- Relay options: Available for both the Standard Triathlon and Aquathlon distances.
Event logistics include a mass start for each category. Parking is available on surrounding roads or at the Main Beach long-stay car park on Victoria Avenue. The event is supported by marshals stationed at registration, the finish line, and transition points, as well as at drinks stations along the route.
