North Wales 50km & 100km
The North Wales 50km & 100km is an organised long distance running event starting from the Nova Centre in Prestatyn and following the North Wales coastline toward Bangor. Routes combine long, runnable coastal sections with inland hills that remain close to the coast.
Distances offered:
- 50 km (actually 53.8 km) with 2700 ft ascent
- 100 km follows the waymarked North Wales Path with 8000 ft ascent
Both routes pass notable landmarks including the Great Orme, Conwy Castle, Aber Falls and Penrhyn Castle. There are six aid stations on the full route and three on the shorter route, with cut off times applied at checkpoints. The 100 km entry includes a drop bag service to the half way checkpoint at Llandudno West Shore that is then moved on to the finish.
Event services provided for all competitors include an event memento and certificate, medical cover, an event map, live tracking and chip timing. Competitors must arrange their own transport from the finish; a main rail line follows much of the route and there are stations along the way. Parking is available at the start for a small charge. A briefing and mandatory kit check are completed shortly before participants set off. Time limits are 9 hours for the 50 km and 18 hours for the 100 km.
