Event Overview

The New Yorker is a running event held in Riverside Park, situated between the Upper West Side and the Hudson River. This historic park, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted over 150 years ago, features waterfront views of Manhattan and various walking paths. The course passes over the Freedom Tunnel and utilizes a loop system within the park's greenery.

Race Formats

Participants can choose from two different distances:

  • 5K (3.1 miles) consisting of one loop.
  • 10K (6.2 miles) consisting of two loops.

Course and Amenities

Water stations are positioned approximately every 1.5 miles along the route, offering water, Gatorade, and electrolyte gels. Participants receive a technical T-shirt with male and female cuts available. Those who register at least four weeks in advance receive a commemorative bib, while general bibs are provided for later registrations. Every finisher is awarded a die cast medal with a full color ribbon.

Timing is conducted via chips attached to the bibs, providing split times for each loop and real-time final results. After the race, a selection of bagels with various spreads, fruit, and drinks is served.

Recognition and Facilities

Awards and plaques are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers. Recognition is also given to the top three participants in age categories ranging from 14-19 through 70 and older. Limited baggage check-in is available upon request, requiring a matching bib for item retrieval. Participants must present a picture ID to collect their timing materials.
