Event overview
The Mystery Drop is an outdoor navigation race with a secret finish location in Shrewsbury. Competitors are taken to an unknown drop point that is 15 miles as the crow flies from Shrewsbury. The actual distance to the finish is likely to be longer than 15 miles because a direct line is unlikely. The event is limited to 53 places and is for participants aged 18 and over.
Format and rules
Participants register at St Chads Terrace and receive a GPS tracker, an emergency kit, and a security sealed bag for their phone. Phones must be placed in the sealed bag and kept there except for emergencies or race withdrawal. No maps, no personal GPS devices, and no pre-arranged outside assistance are allowed. Only running, walking, or crawling is permitted; vehicles, bikes, scooters, horses, and similar transport are forbidden. Trespassing on private land is prohibited. Competitors who act in an unsafe manner may be disqualified without refund.
Logistics, safety and prizes
Competitors board a bus to the drop point and must wear a blindfold during the transfer; the journey lasts approximately 40 minutes. The organizer monitors competitors via the provided GPS trackers; failure to return a tracker incurs a £100 replacement fee. Prizes are awarded to the first three individual finishers and to the first placed team. Team entries must have at least two members and all team members must finish; team results use the mean average of member times. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
