Jingle Hells is a tough winter fell race on the Long Mynd near Church Stretton. A fully marked 10 km route with about 1000 m of ascent offers steep climbs and stunning views, so come ready for rugged winter conditions.

Event details

Jingle Hells is a fell race organised by Mercia Fell Runners Club on Sunday 21 December 2025 in Church Stretton, Shropshire/Welsh Borders. The event centre is the Church Stretton Scout Hut (Rectory Field, grid SO452938, postal code SY6 6DQ). The race distance is 10 km (about 6.2 miles) with approximately 1000 m of ascent. Entry is available by pre-entry via SI Entries or on the day. Entry fees are £8.00 for pre-entry and £10.00 on the day. Teams are not allowed and there are no junior races. The event has a permit and associated UK Athletics insurance from the FRA.

Course and safety

The route is a mix of established Long Mynd paths with some unique links, described and mapped by the organiser and fully marked where possible. Key navigation and control points include the Callow/Yearlet, Ashes Hollow, Balcony Path, Grindle summit (cut-off to the top of Grindle is 1 hour 30 minutes) and a return through Rectory Wood to the finish at Rectory Field. Competitors must carry full FRA kit for this race; required items listed by the organiser include waterproof top and bottoms, hat, gloves, emergency food, map, compass and whistle. SI dibbers are used at checkpoints and random kit checks will be carried out. Competitors must report retirements to the finish and surrender race number and dibber.
