Terry's Townbrook Terror

Terry's Townbrook Terror is an informal night fell race based at the Scout Hut in Church Stretton. The race is confirmed for 15 December 2026 and is not a Mercia Fell Runners event. Entry is on the day only with a fee of £5.

The course is approximately 3.8 km with about 270 m of total ascent. The route for recent editions returns to the original line: up Rectory Field, up 100 steps and the ridge to Yearlet summit, then down into Townbrook Hollow and through Rectory Wood to finish at the Scout Hut. The first half of the descent is described as steep and slick.

The event is run at night and the route will be heavily marked, though markers can be disturbed. Required equipment includes a head torch, map, compass, waterproof top with hood and waterproof trousers, hat and gloves, and suitable running shoes. Full FRA kit is expected. Christmas fancy dress is described as essential. Proceeds from the race go to local charities.
