Course and safety

The course distance is 3.8 km with a total ascent of 270 m. The race is an informal night event and the route will be heavily marked, although markers may be disturbed by ponies or removed by tourists. Competitors are expected to carry a head torch, map and compass, and wear a waterproof top with hood, waterproof trousers, hat, gloves and suitable running shoes. The first half of the descent is described as steep and slick. Due to tree falls and storm damage, the 2024 route was changed to avoid the woods and the 100 steps by going up the Burway and turning left after the cattle grid. Course records listed are 22:04 (2011) and 24:37 (2011). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
