The More Miles Last One Standing Challenge
The More Miles Last One Standing Challenge is a backyard ultra held June 5, 2027 at Manidokan Camp and Retreat Center in Knoxville, Maryland. This is the event's eighth annual running and it is a Silver Level official backyard ultra, making top contenders eligible for at-large entry to the Backyard Ultra world championship based on total yards or miles completed.
The official backyard format uses a repeated loop called the yard. Each hour participants must complete the yard and return to the start in order to continue; the race continues until only one person completes their yard within the allotted hour. Prize money is offered to both the Last One Standing champion and the second-to-last finisher, known as the assist. Prize awards are based on official race miles only.
A companion Mortals edition uses a 1 mile loop. That event runs for 24 hours and, if multiple contenders remain, adds one mile per additional hour until a single winner emerges. Every participant receives official timing, a race t-shirt, a race bib, and a consolation prize if they do not finish.
Facilities and race services include on-course and basecamp aid with water and Open Fuel, rotating snack offerings beginning in hour 5, showers, on-site camping with a designated 10x10 space, and cabins available about 400 meters from the start. The course is primarily trail with rolling hills, packed dirt, grass, and packed gravel, with one road crossing as the only pavement.
