The More Miles Last One Standing Challenge
The More Miles Last One Standing Challenge is a backyard ultra held at Manidokan Camp and Retreat Center in Knoxville, MD on May 30, 2026. The event uses a repeating loop of 4.167 miles as the official yard and also offers a 1-mile backyard format that runs under the same hourly-start rules.
The 4.167 mile race follows the backyard ultra format: participants must complete one yard each hour to continue into the next hour. The last person able to complete the yard within the hour is the event winner. The 1-mile event runs for 24 hours and, if multiple contenders remain, moves to a tie-breaker adding one mile per hour until a single winner emerges. Top contenders in the official 4.167 mile event are eligible for at-large entry consideration to the Backyard Ultra world championship based on yards completed.
Facilities include on-site camping with a designated 10x10 space per participant, a small aid station offering water, Tailwind, and light snacks, communal campfire food on Saturday evening, and pancakes Sunday morning. Showers are available and cabins with beds and air conditioning are located about 200 meters from the start/finish area. The race provides official timing, a race t-shirt, a bib, and awards for the Last One Standing in both distances; consolation prizes are given to other participants.
Key rules note that support is permitted only at the start/finish area, no assistance is allowed on the course, headlamps are required between sunset and sunrise, and the event is cupless so participants should bring a bottle or collapsible cup. If campers arrive Friday night, a $5 cash fee is collected at packet pick-up. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
