Candy Cane Dash 5K & 1K : Frederick
The Candy Cane Dash is an annual family-friendly running event held in Baker Park in Frederick, Maryland, organized to benefit Girls on the Run Mid Maryland. The event has been staged on the first Saturday of December for the past 11 years and includes both a community 5K and a 1K fun run.
Participants may run, walk, or roll the course. Pet attendance is restricted due to city regulations. Awards include overall recognition for the top three male and female finishers and 10-year age group awards for community runners. Costumes and holiday gear are encouraged.
Registration options and fees vary by date; the 5K offers in-person and virtual entry, while the 1K fun run is in-person only. Same-day registration is available on race morning. Early packet pick up occurs on days preceding the event at local pickup locations, with a packet pick up schedule published by the organizer.
The event supports Girls on the Run, a youth development after school program for girls in grades 3 through 8 that integrates running or movement and concludes each season with a celebratory 5K. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
