The Maverick Peak District X-Trail 2026
The Maverick Peak District X-Trail takes place in the Peak District National Park, starting and finishing at the Bakewell Showground in Derbyshire. The event offers two long-distance trail routes that traverse varied terrain, including high moors, river valleys, and old railways. Participants encounter sections of the Pennine footpath and visit several locations across the park, such as Bamford, Hathersage, Curbar, Froggatt, and Stanage.
Available distances include:
- 101 km (100k Ultra) with approximately 2750 m of elevation gain.
- 55 km (50k Ultra) with approximately 1214 m of elevation gain.
The course features a mix of technical ground, stone steps, and rocky climbs. Runners have an 18-hour time limit for the 101 km route and a 10-hour time limit for the 55 km route. There are multiple outposts along the course providing water, electrolyte drinks, and snacks. This is a plastic-free event, so participants must carry their own reusable cups or bottles for hydration.
Mandatory equipment for both distances includes a waterproof jacket and trousers, a long-sleeve base layer, a mobile phone, a foil blanket, a headtorch with spare batteries, and a minimum of one litre of water. GPS trackers are provided for all participants. Dogs are not permitted on either the 50km or 100km routes. Free parking is available at the venue, and the nearest train stations are Matlock, Buxton, or Chesterfield. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
