Event overview
The Famous Grouse Fell Race takes place in Birch Vale, Peak District on Sunday 29 November 2026. It is a short fell race over 8.4 km / 5.2 miles with 335 m / 1099 ft of climb. The course follows the original route, starting from the bottom of Moorlands Road. Registration is at the Sycamore Inn on Sycamore Road, Birchvale, which is about a 10 minute walk from the start. Results and prize giving are held at the pub after the race.
Entry, limits and logistics
Entry is on the day only. Fees are £4 for FRA members and £5 for non-members. The event is for adults aged 18 and over and is limited to a maximum of 125 runners. There is no mandatory kit list; participants are expected to equip themselves sensibly for a November fell race in Derbyshire. Parking is available at the pub but may be used by other visitors, and organisers ask that competitors avoid parking on Sycamore Road. The race has a permit and associated UK Athletics insurance from the FRA. Course records are 33:10 (male, 2005) and 38:40 (female, 2013).
