The Maverick Lakes X-Trail

The Maverick Lakes X-Trail is a trail running event in the Lake District that starts and finishes at Grasmere Lakeland Sports & Shows. The route visits Easdale Tarn, Stickle Tarn, Greater Langdale, Loughrigg Tarn and finishes via Rydal Head and the Fairfield Horseshoe. The terrain is technical fell ground with steep climbs and descents. The event is not dog friendly.

The event offers multiple routes with GPX and RideWithGPS files provided:

• 50k Ultra - 52 km, +2,858 m
• Marathon - 43 km, +2,367 m
• Half Marathon - 25 km, +1,131 m
• Middle - 14 km, +617 m
• Short - 9 km, +386 m

Cut-offs apply to the 50k Ultra and Marathon, with a total allowed time of 11 hours. Specified outpost cut-off locations and times apply; arriving after an outpost cut-off results in being returned to the finish. Outposts (where provided) offer snacks, gels and electrolyte drink. The event aims to be cup free so participants should bring a reusable cup or bottle.

Mandatory kit lists include items such as a waterproof jacket, mobile phone, minimum calories and water, foil blanket and GPX route on device, with additional mandatory items for longer distances. Online entry fees are shown in euros and online entry closes 15 September 2026 at 11:00; on the day entries are possible if not sold out. Transfers are managed via the registration account with a final transfer day the Monday before the event.

Included on event day are free parking, fully marked course, timing and online results, event photography, food and drink, bag drop, a metal finishers medal, GPS tracking on Ultra and long routes, and non alcoholic beer. A charity option offers a limited number of free 50k places for those who pledge to raise £250 or more for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
