Scafell Pike Sea to Summit
This is a one-day, mass-participation mountain ultramarathon that starts at sea level in Seascale and finishes at Seascale Sports Hall after an ascent and return via mountain trails. The course covers 33 miles (53 km) with approximately +5600 ft of elevation and is part of the Sea to Summit series within the Rat Race National 3 Peaks Trilogy.
The route is fully waymarked with bright orange arrows and backed by paid mountain safety staff at key locations. The event is fully supported and uses a professional medical team supplied by Trail Med; paramedics and doctors operate from vehicles and a private ambulance rather than volunteer medical crews. Cut-offs are set to a 3 mph completion pace and pit stops are located along the course to offer water, hot drinks, salty snacks, sweets and fruit; these stops also provide toilets and on-site first aid.
Practical details include a mandatory kit list, the option to transfer entries within the qualifying window, and a park-and-shuttle arrangement with the event car park located around 3 miles from the start line and a free shuttle to the start. Participants must be over 18 on the day of registration. Finishers receive a Sea to Summit Scafell Pike medal; completing all three Sea to Summit events awards a separate Trilogy gold medal under the series terms.
