The Maverick Lakes X-Trail 2026
The Maverick Lakes X-Trail is an off road trail running event held on 19 September 2026 at Grasmere Lakeland Sports and Shows, Stock Lane, Grasmere, Ambleside LA22 9SL, United Kingdom. The route departs from Grasmere and passes Easdale Tarn, Stickle Tarn and the Cumbria Way, then runs through Greater Langdale and past Loughrigg Tarn before climbing to Rydal Head and the Fairfield Horseshoe, finishing back at the Grasmere venue.
Five route options are available with published distances and elevation gain:
- 50k Ultra 52 km elevation gain plus 2858 m
- Marathon 43 km elevation gain plus 2367 m
- Half Marathon 25 km elevation gain plus 1131 m
- Middle 14 km elevation gain plus 617 m
- Short 9 km elevation gain plus 386 m
Terrain is described as steep rocky climbs and very technical descents. Outposts and services vary by route: no outpost on the Short or Middle routes, two outposts on the Half Marathon, three on the Marathon and four on the 50k Ultra. Outpost provisions include fruit, cake, crisps, gels and electrolyte drink and are intended as a top up to what runners carry. The event aims to be cup free at outposts so runners should bring a reusable cup or bottle.
Additional facts: free parking at the venue, fully marked and timed courses, GPS route tracking on the Ultra and Long routes, a metal finisher medal and a donation of £1 from every entry to Fix the Fells.
