The Mathew Forbes Romer Foundation 5K for Brain Health
The Mathew Forbes Romer Foundation 5K for Brain Health is scheduled for January 10, 2027 at South County Regional Park in West Boca Raton. The event includes an in person 5K and a virtual Sleep In option that follows a 5K distance. The Sleep In option includes a mailed shirt and finisher medal and is run on the honor system; virtual participants are not eligible for awards and do not need to submit a time.
The event supports the Mathew Forbes Romer Foundation mission to promote awareness, testing, counseling, and research aimed at preventing and eventually curing fatal genetic brain diseases in children. The foundation has funded projects across three pillars: research of treatments and cures, education and genetic screening, and nursing school educational programs, and has raised approximately $3 million for these efforts. The foundation reports progress in gene therapy patient trials, education, and genetic testing while noting ongoing needs for earlier detection and broader treatment availability.
Logistics include timing provided by Accuchip Timing, Dry‑Fit type shirts for participants, and awards for male and female overall winners plus age groups including under 10, 10–14, 15–19, and ten year groups up to 80 and over. Packet pick up is available at Runner's Edge, 3195 N. Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, and bibs may be picked up for other members of a group. There is free parking at the Amphitheater; use 20405 Amphitheater Circle, West Boca Raton for directions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
