The Aden Perry Hero Event 5 km
The event is a community 5 km run and walk held at Markham Park in Sunrise, Florida. It is organized to honor a young local hero and to support a registered 501(c)(3) scholarship and good samaritan fund. The event collects school supplies to donate to students in need, with a raffle ticket issued for each donated bag of supplies.
The 5 km includes chip timing and long sleeved dri wick race shirts. All registered finishers receive custom finisher medals. Overall and age group places receive custom winner medals; awards are also given to top dogs and top overall dog entries. Dogs may participate but must be registered together with their human runner to be eligible for awards.
On site features include a dog water and treat station, bandanas for sale, live national anthem and color guard, multiple student and local music performances, live DJ and band, food vendors, silent auction and raffles, CPR demonstration and training, packet pick up, post race refreshments and family activities such as a post race volleyball game and craft projects.
The organizing charity directs event funds to scholarships, school supply donations and other community support programs. The registration fee for the 5 km is $40. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
