Event format and rules
The Longbridge 100 Backyard Ultra is a last-person-standing race where competitors must begin a new lap on the hour, every hour. Each loop must be started at the bell and completed within the hour to count. Competitors may not leave the course during a loop except for restrooms. No non-competitors or personal aid are allowed on the course during a loop; assistance is permitted only between finishing one lap and entering the starting corral for the next lap. No artificial aids such as trekking poles are allowed. Faster runners may pass slower runners; if no runner can start one more lap than anyone else, there is no winner. All runners must wear a running watch to record loops and cumulative distance.
Course, timing and facilities
The route runs through single paths and farm access roads on chalky flint and gravel surfaces; the organisers recommend trail shoes. Elevation is listed as 180m for the Winter route and 190m for the Summer route. The timing system records laps with a timing app and manual backups, and a token must be picked up at the second turnaround on every lap and returned to race HQ - failure to carry the token results in disqualification.
- Minimum lap length: 4.167 miles
- Route also listed as 4.2 miles (6.78 km)
Race HQ is based at The Longbridge Farm Barns with covered space for runners and one support crew per runner, an aid station with drinks and snacks, toilets, changing areas, first aid cover, and power for charging devices. The event operates sustainability measures such as reusable water stations, reduced single-use plastics, recycling and electric shuttle options. Refund and deferral terms apply and numbers are limited. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
