Event Overview
The South Coast Ultra Challenge is a trail running and walking event taking place on 5-6 September 2026. It is part of a larger series of endurance events. The route is set in the South Downs National Park, starting in Eastbourne and finishing in Arundel, covering approximately 2000 metres of climb. Participants can choose from several distance options.
Course Details
The course follows the South Downs Way, beginning in Eastbourne and heading over Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters cliffs. The route offers views over the sea, passes through Brighton approximately halfway, and continues over Devil's Dyke before finishing in historic Arundel. The total continuous route is 100 km. There are also half, quarter, and two-day options.
Distance Options
Participants can register for the following distances:
- 100 km (Full Continuous): A single-day challenge from Eastbourne to Arundel.
- 100 km (Full 2-Day): The distance is split over two days, with an overnight stop. Day 1 covers 57 km from Eastbourne to Hove. Day 2 covers 43 km from Hove to Arundel.
- 57 km (1st Half Challenge): From Eastbourne to Hove.
- 43 km (2nd Half Challenge): From Hove to Arundel.
- 25 km (1st Quarter Challenge): From Eastbourne to Alfriston.
Event Features
The event offers full support along the route, including covered rest stops approximately every 12.5 km with food, drinks, and medical support. A mobile app provides GPS tracking and route information. There is an option for an overnight camping package for participants tackling the full two-day challenge. The route is marked with signage, and a timing system tracks progress. At the finish line, participants receive a medal and a finisher's t-shirt.
