South Coast Ultra Challenge
The South Coast Ultra Challenge takes place within the South Downs National Park, offering participants a route with coastal views and varied terrain. The journey begins in Eastbourne, heading up Beachy Head, across the Seven Sisters, and along the South Downs Way. The 100 km route passes through a halfway point in Brighton and continues past Devil’s Dyke before finishing in historic Arundel.
Participants can choose from several distance options:
- Full Continuous 100 km: A single journey from Eastbourne to Arundel with approximately 2170 m of climb.
- Full 2 Day 100 km: The total distance split over two days, stopping at Hove Park after 57 km.
- 1st Half Challenge 57 km: From Eastbourne to Hove Park, including 1250 m of climb.
- 2nd Half Challenge 43 km: From Hove Park to Arundel, featuring 850 m of elevation.
- 1st Quarter Challenge 25 km: A shorter segment from Eastbourne to Alfriston.
The event provides full support including marquee rest stops approximately every 12.5 km. These stations offer water, energy drinks, snacks, and meals, with hot food available at the finish line. Medical teams, podiatrists, and massage services are stationed along the route. For those participating in the two-day challenge, base camps with camping packages and hot showers are available.
The course is fully marked with pink arrows and glow-sticks for night sections. Participants are monitored via a timing system and a mobile app with GPS tracking. Finisher benefits include a medal, a T-shirt, and a glass of fizz. Shuttle buses operate to and from local train stations for onward travel.
