The Llangollen 50k

The Llangollen 50k is an off-road 50 kilometre race based in Llangollen in the Dee Valley, North Wales. The route links two way marked 15 mile linear routes on either side of the river, with a small extra section to reach the full 50k distance. The course follows the Dee Valley Way first to Corwen and returns via the North Berwyn Way, reaching the Berwyn hilltop Moel Fferna as its highest point at 2071 ft.

There are three staffed checkpoints with feed stations located at 11 km (Bwlch y Groes), 23.8 km (Corwen Leisure Centre) and 39 km (Ceiriog Forest). The route includes nearly 6000 ft of total ascent and uses valley and upland trails, forest and hill sections. All participants receive a finish medal.

Given the distance and terrain, the organiser requires specific kit. Runners must be prepared to carry a full body waterproof cover, hat and gloves, a map provided by the organiser, at least 1 litre of water at the start, a fully charged mobile phone and a foil blanket. A 10 hour event cut off is enforced and checkpoints will close in line with that policy; competitors who reach closed checkpoints will be retired from the race.

The race starts, finishes and handles registration at Llangollen Leisure Centre. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
