The Llangollen 50k
The Llangollen 50k is an ultra-distance trail event in the Dee Valley, North Wales, with the start, finish and registration at Llangollen Leisure Centre. The route links two existing linear trails, the Dee Valley Way out to Corwen and the North Berwyn Way for the return, forming a roughly 50-kilometre circuit that runs on either side of the river and above the valley.
The course includes three staffed checkpoints with feed stations at approximately 11 km (Bwlch y Groes), 23.8 km (Corwen Leisure Centre) and 39 km (Ceiriog Forest). The route reaches a high point on the Berwyn hilltop of Moel Fferna at 2,071 ft and accumulates nearly 6,000 ft of ascent over the full distance. The terrain includes hill paths, forest and valley tracks and may require walking on some ascents.
Organisers provide a map and require runners to carry specific kit because of the distance and terrain. Required items include full body waterproof cover, hat and gloves, map, at least 1 litre of water at the start, a fully charged mobile phone and a foil blanket. All participants receive a finisher medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
