The Llangollen 50k
The Llangollen 50 km is an ultra distance trail race held around the town of Llangollen in the Dee Valley of North Wales. First held in 2021, the route links two waymarked linear trails on either side of the river to create a continuous loop that reaches upland sections above the valley.
The course follows the Dee Valley Way outbound to Corwen and returns via the North Berwyn Way. Over the full route runners climb through nearly 6000 ft of ascent and reach a high point on the Berwyn hilltop of Moel Fferna at 2071 ft. The route includes a mix of valley paths and upland terrain with ascents that many participants will walk.
There are three manned checkpoints with feed stations located at 11 km (Bwlch y Groes), 23.8 km (Corwen Leisure Centre) and 39 km (Ceiriog Forest). Start, finish and registration are at Llangollen Leisure Centre. All participants receive a finisher medal.
Due to the distance and terrain the event requires specific kit. Runners are expected to carry items such as full body waterproof cover, hat and gloves, a buff, the organiser provided map, at least 1 litre of water at the start, a fully charged mobile phone and a foil blanket.
