The Llangollen 50k
The Llangollen 50k is a 50 km trail race in the Dee Valley around Llangollen in North Wales. The event was first held in 2021 and has its start and finish at Llangollen Leisure Centre, Dinbren Road, Llangollen.
The course links two way marked 15 mile linear routes on either side of the river, with an additional section to reach the full 50 km. Runners follow the Dee Valley Way to Corwen and return via the North Berwyn Way. The route gains nearly 6000 ft of ascent and reaches a high point on the Berwyn hilltop of Moel Fferna at 2071 ft.
There are three checkpoints with feed stations at 11 km (Bwlch y Groes), 23.8 km (Corwen Leisure Centre) and 39 km (Ceiriog Forest). A ten hour race time cut off is enforced and checkpoint closures reflect that limit.
All participants receive a finisher medal. Because of the distance and terrain the organiser requires specific kit, including full body waterproof cover, hat and gloves, the provided map, at least one litre of water at the start, a fully charged mobile phone and a foil blanket; final kit details are issued nearer the event.
