The Llangollen 50k

The Llangollen 50k is an ultra-distance trail race held in the Dee Valley around Llangollen. The route links two marked linear routes of about 15 miles each, one side of the river out to Corwen and the return on the North Berwyn Way, with a small extra section to complete the 50 kilometre distance. The course reaches a high point on Moel Fferna at 2,071 ft and includes nearly 6,000 ft of total ascent.

The event uses three checkpoint locations with feed stations: 11 km at Bwlch y Groes, 23.8 km at Corwen Leisure Centre, and 39 km at Ceiriog Forest. All participants receive a finisher medal.

The start, finish and registration take place at Llangollen Leisure Centre. A 10 hour overall cut off is enforced and checkpoints will close in line with that limit. Entry fees range from £0.00 for an OutFit member entry to £53.50 for a standard entry, according to the available offers.

Because of the distance and terrain, organisers require specific kit. Required items include a full body waterproof cover, hat and gloves, a buff, the provided map, at least 1 litre of water at the start, a fully charged mobile phone and a foil blanket. The route follows established public trails through the valley and onto the Berwyn hills. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
