Event details
The Link Challenge 2026 takes place on Saturday 21 March 2026 at Burrs Country Park, Woodhill Road, Bury, BL8 1DA. The event is a 20-mile trail run or hike that passes through the villages of Nangreaves, Holcombe, Hawkshaw, Affetside, Ainsworth and Greenmount. The route is mainly on trail paths and passes by landmarks, woodland and open meadows. The Sunnywood Project organises the event as a non-profit activity; proceeds support its youth service and community activities. Dogs are not permitted. The event minimum age is 18 and the published entry fee is £34.00. Entries open 24 March 2025 and close 15 March 2026. At the time of this listing there are 32 participants entered.
Included services, route and kit
Participants receive a finisher Sunnywood neck gaiter. The event provides regular checkpoints with aid station food and drink supplies and secure car parking at the start/finish. Guides will run or hike the whole route to offer support, while participants may continue independently if they prefer. Full route details and GPX files will be provided in the week prior to the event. Required kit includes waterproof jacket and trousers, spare warm layer, hat and gloves, ability to carry a minimum 1 litre of water, reusable cup for aid stations, map or Ordnance Survey 287, compass, whistle, survival blanket or bag, first aid kit and personal medicines, suitable trail shoes or boots, personal food, and a head torch or other light source.
