Event overview

The Link Challenge 2026 is scheduled for 21 March 2026 at Burrs Country Park, Woodhill Road, Bury, BL8 1DA. The event is a 20-mile trail route that links six villages: Nangreaves, Holcombe, Hawkshaw, Affetside, Ainsworth and Greenmount. It is organised by The Sunnywood Project. Entry opened on 24 March 2025 and closes on 15 March 2026. The minimum age is 18 on the event date. The published entry fee is £34.00 and at the time of the listing there were 5 participants entered. Proceeds support the organiser’s youth service and community activities.

Format, inclusions and kit

The route follows mainly trail paths past landmarks, woodland and open meadow. The organiser will provide route details and GPX files in the week before the event. Guides will run or hike the route to offer on-route support. Dogs are not permitted. Included for participants are a finisher Sunnywood neck gaiter, regular checkpoints with food and drink at aid stations, and secure car parking at the start and finish. Required kit includes waterproof jacket and trousers, a spare warm layer, hat and gloves, ability to carry a minimum of 1 litre of water, a reusable cup for aid stations, map or OS 287, compass, whistle, survival blanket, first aid supplies, suitable trail shoes, personal food and a head torch.
