Event overview
The Link Challenge 2026 is a 20-mile trail run or hike on Saturday 21 March 2026, organised by The Sunnywood Project. The route links six villages around Bury: Nangreaves, Holcombe, Hawkshaw, Affetside, Ainsworth and Greenmount. The event uses Burrs Country Park, Woodhill Road, Bury BL8 1DA as the start and finish location. Entry fee is £34.00. Entries open 24 March 2025 and close 15 March 2026. Minimum age is 18 on the event date. Dogs are not permitted.
Route, support and logistics
The route is mainly on trail paths and passes woodland, open meadow and local landmarks. Full route details and GPX files will be provided in the week prior to the event. The event provides regular checkpoints with food and drink supplies, secure car parking at the start/finish and a finisher Sunnywood neck gaiter. A limited number of Village Link t-shirts are available for purchase.
Kit and safety
Participants must carry mandatory kit, including a waterproof jacket and trousers, a spare warm layer, hat and gloves, a minimum of 1 litre of water, a reusable cup, a fully charged mobile phone with mapping apps or printed map, compass, whistle, survival blanket, basic first aid and suitable trail shoes or boots. A head torch or other light source is also required. The event is run by a qualified team and proceeds support the organiser’s youth service and community activities.
