Event Overview
The Link Challenge is a 20-mile trail event taking place on Saturday, 21st March 2026. The route is known as The Village Link, connecting six historic villages around Bury: Nangreaves, Holcombe, Hawkshaw, Affetside, Ainsworth, and Greenmount. The course is mainly on trail paths and passes by iconic landmarks, woodland, and open meadows.

The event has separate start times for hikers and runners. Friendly guides will be on the route to offer support, though participants may also go ahead independently. The event is for participants aged 18 or older. Dogs are not permitted.
Venue and Logistics
The event starts and finishes at Burrs Country Park in Bury (BL8 1DA). Secure car parking is available at the venue. The entry fee is £34.00.
What's Provided and Required Kit
Participants receive a finisher's neck gaiter. Regular checkpoints provide food and drink supplies. The event has a mandatory kit list, which includes:
- Waterproof jacket and trousers, a spare warm layer, hat, and gloves.
- Ability to carry at least 1 litre of water and a reusable cup.
- A fully charged mobile phone with mapping apps, a physical map or print of the route, and a compass.
- A whistle, survival blanket or bag, and a personal first aid kit.
- Suitable trail shoes or boots, personal snacks, and a head torch or suitable light source.
