About the race
The Two Crosses Challenge Event is an annual LDWA challenge held on Sunday March 14th 2027 from a base at Greenmount Old School Community Centre BL8 4DS. The event offers two route choices that both visit the Roman Cross at Affetside and the Pilgrim's Cross on Holcombe Moor.
Distances:
- 18 miles
- 26 miles
Entries open on Monday 7 September 2026 via SI Entries, with priority booking for LDWA members until 7 October 2026. Entry fees are listed as £15.00 for LDWA members and £22.00 for non LDWA participants. Refunds are available subject to a 20% administration fee. Entries may be sold to another entrant subject to SI admin fees; substitution of entrants is permitted with no fee when done via SI Entries. Changes to entries can be made until Saturday 6 March 2027.
The route is not waymarked. Entrants must navigate using the provided route description and GPX files, which will be updated before the event and issued to entrants when finalised. There are closing times for later checkpoints and a cut off at 7.5 miles that determines continuation on the longer route; entrants must meet the checkpoint times in the route description or they may be retired.
Parking is arranged across several locations; parking is not available at the Old School and the Miller and Carter pub is not permitted. Participants should bring a mug and required equipment as listed on SI Entries. Dogs are welcome when kept on a lead, supervised because of livestock and ground nesting birds, and should have public liability insurance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
