Saddleworth Res's - event overview
Saddleworth Res's is a trail and off-road event on Saturday 7 March 2026, organised by CraggRunner and based at Saddleworth Rangers Rugby Club in Greenfield, Oldham. The routes run across high moorland and valleys around Saddleworth, visiting several local reservoirs. Surfaces include paved paths, tracks, boulder fields, stream crossings and areas of bog. Routes are not waymarked and participants must navigate themselves and visit checkpoints in the correct order. Open Tracking will be used for live tracking and timing.
Courses and key facts
- 25 km - 710 m ascent; 2 checkpoints; minimum age 17.
- 44 km - 1,314 m ascent; 3 checkpoints; minimum age 18.
- 60 km - 1,876 m ascent; 5 checkpoints (3 indoor); minimum age 20.
The 60 km course has a 12-hour time allowance and published cutoffs. The 25 km route is circular and includes Dovestones and a boulder field. The 44 km route follows the classic 10-reservoir line and includes boggy sections and paving slabs.
Logistics and required equipment
Entry fees are listed per course and include refreshments, Open Tracking timing and a post-event meal. The venue offers showers and indoor facilities. Support points and several indoor checkpoints are provided along the courses, with professional medical and mountain rescue cover on standby.
Participants must carry whole waterproof body cover, hat and gloves, spare long-sleeve top, paper map, compass and whistle, basic first-aid, survival bag, headtorch with spare batteries (not required on the 25 km), extra food and water, and other suitable clothing for the weather.
