The Honest Lawyer 5k - Van And A Man series
The Honest Lawyer 5k is a summer fun run and walk series based at The Honest Lawyer Country Pub in Monaco, Nelson. The 26/27 season includes up to 14 Monday evening races, with a six‑event mini‑series starting 09 November 2026 and running through 14 December 2026, followed by eight races in February and March 2027.
Entry for the first mini‑series is on the night only. On‑the‑night prices are listed as: Adults $5, School Student $2, Family (two adults and up to two children) $10. School students receive the discounted fee whether entered as a junior or adult.
The event uses three course options: the Peninsular Course around the Monaco Peninsula, the Y Course along the cycle trail toward Nelson airport, and an Out and Back Course along the Deviation used as a backup. Course choice may vary and the Peninsular Course depends on tides for a short beach section.
There are three race grades: Runner (adults and 14 and over, walking allowed), Walker (adults and 14 and over, no jogging or running allowed), and Junior (under 14, can run and walk). Series results and course maps are published online. A Century Club leaderboard is maintained for series scoring.
After each race a random spot prize draw is held; entrants must be present at prize giving to receive a prize. The series is organised by the Honest Lawyer 5k team with support from local partners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
