About the race
The Nelson Half Marathon is an annual run and walk event based at Saxton Field, with start and finish at the Suburbs Football Pavilion in Nelson, New Zealand. Courses are almost entirely on local walkways and the Great Taste Trail, with about 90% of the route on safe paths offering vistas across the Waimea Inlet.
Distances offered:
- 21.1 km half marathon run/walk
- 10 km run/walk
- 5 km fun run/walk
- 2.5 km fun run/walk
Entries are available with an early bird discount on the half marathon and 10 km; listed entry fees include separate rates for adults and under-19s and lower fees for the shorter fun runs. A cancellation fee of $15 applies to the half marathon and 10 km; there are no refunds for 5 km and 2.5 km entries. If the event cannot be held, entries may roll over to the following November; the organisers reserve the right to postpone or cancel.
Event features include medals for all finishers, spot prizes, trophies for top finishers in selected categories, and a photographer on course. Drink stations are provided (three on the half marathon course and one on the 10 km). Limited showers are available at the venue. Roads and walkways remain open during the event; competitors must obey road rules and marshal instructions. Bikes, rollerblades, skateboards and dogs are not permitted. Baby buggies and wheelchairs are permitted on the 10 km, 5 km and 2.5 km courses but are not suitable for the half marathon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
