The Nelson Half Marathon
The Nelson Half Marathon is an annual running and walking event based at Saxton Field in Nelson, New Zealand, held on the first Sunday in November. The event offers multiple course distances and allows participants to run or walk.
Distances include:
- 21.1 km half marathon run or walk
- 10 km run or walk
- 5 km fun run or walk
- 2.5 km fun run or walk
All courses start and finish at the Suburbs Football Pavilion, Saxton Field. About 90% of the half marathon and 10 km routes use safe walkways, including local walkway systems around Stoke and sections of the Great Taste Trail, with vistas across the Waimea Inlet. The half marathon course has three drink stations and the 10 km course has one; there are no drink stations on the 5 km and 2.5 km courses. Finishers receive medals and spot prizes are available to competitors. Prize giving takes place at the Suburbs Football Club rooms after the shorter events finish.
Event logistics include race numbers and a timing chip issued in the race pack; the timing chip must be attached to a shoe and returned at the finish to avoid an invoiced replacement fee. Bikes, rollerblades, skateboards and dogs are not permitted on the courses. Baby buggies and wheelchairs are permitted on the 10 km, 5 km and 2.5 km courses but are not suitable for the half marathon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
