Herring Run Trail Race : event description

The Herring Run uses a single 9.75 km loop that is run once or twice depending on the entry. The 2026 course features 278 m of vertical per loop, about 25% more technical singletrack than the previous layout, and a low-tide cove crossing. The route goes inland first and then returns toward the coast, includes a rocky bay shore section, and is mostly narrow singletrack with some double track. The current course has no road section.

  • 19.5 km two laps

There is one aid station located at the lap point for 19.5 km runners; there are no aid stations on the 9.75 km course. Runners are advised to carry their own water or hydration system. Organizers provide a locally sourced mostly organic luncheon for runners and volunteers after the event. Free camping is available in the fields at the venue.

Entry and race rules: field capped at 115 runners, a waiting list of 20 is used, transfers are not allowed and there is no day-of registration. A kids race of about a half mile comprises two laps around fields and a short stretch of woods. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
