The Herring Run Trail Race
The event takes place in Mascarene, New Brunswick, on a single 9.75 km loop that is run once or twice depending on the chosen distance. The trail goes into the woods and follows the rocky shore of Passamaquoddy Bay, including a crossing of a sizable cove at low tide.
The 2026 course differs from recent years because of property shifts. The new route is 9.75 km long, has 278 m of vertical gain, and features about 25% more technical singletrack. There is no road section on this year’s course. Several private landowners have allowed access across their property for the route.
For the 19.5 km option, which is two laps of the loop, a 1.5 hour cutoff is kept for the first lap to ensure runners can cross the cove at low tide. Organizers have a goal of all racers finishing in about 3 hours whether they run the 9.75 km or the 19.5 km. The course used from 2021 to 2025 measured 10.74 km.
