Event overview
The Hardmoors 55 is an ultramarathon scheduled for Saturday 21 March 2026 and organised by Hardmoors. The route covers 55 miles from Guisborough to Helmsley through the North York Moors and the Cleveland Hills, with over 2700 m of ascent. Minimum age is 18. Entries open 27 April 2025 and close 27 February 2026; fees vary by date and affiliation and include a compulsory OpenTracking tracker. Entry requires logging in or registering with SiEntries.
Course, checkpoints and timing
About 95% of the route follows the Cleveland Way National Trail. Checkpoints and services are provided at set locations, with drop bag points at Kildale Village Hall (11 miles) and Osmotherley Village Hall (30 miles). All checkpoints have stated cutoffs measured as hours from the start: Kildale 4 hrs, Clay Bank 6 hrs, Osmotherley 9.5 hrs, White Horse 13.5 hrs, finish 16 hrs. Missing a checkpoint may incur a 1 to 3 hour penalty and the mandatory tracker can be reviewed to check for shortcuts.
Mandatory kit, checks and support
Runners must carry a specified kit for the whole race, including hat and spare gloves, waterproof jacket with taped seams, waterproof trousers, full running tights, minimum 1 litre water, headtorch, Cleveland Way or OS map, whistle, survival bag, foil blanket, emergency food, spare warm layer, charged mobile phone and race bib attachment. Everybody will be spot-checked; penalties range from time additions to disqualification for items such as a non-waterproof jacket or missing survival bag. Support teams are not allowed; one support runner may join from Sutton Bank to the finish but may not carry the runner’s gear. Two small, non-returnable drop bags are permitted and one small waterproof finish bag is allowed. A coach return option is available for a fee when booking.
