Hardmoors 55
The Hardmoors 55 is a point-to-point ultramarathon held on 20 March 2027. The course runs from Guisborough to Helmsley, following much of the Cleveland Way and crossing the North York Moors and the Cleveland Hills, including Roseberry Topping and the Three Sisters. The advertised distance is 53 miles with total ascent of 7545 ft (2300 m) and a race time limit of 16 hours.
The event has a field limit of 350 competitors including relay entries. Checkpoints and aid are provided at set locations along the route, with water, basic food and two drop-bag stations (Kildale at 11 miles and Osmotherley at 30 miles). Cutoffs apply at successive checkpoints and a tracker is compulsory for monitoring the route and any missed checkpoints.
Competitors must carry a specified set of mandatory kit for the whole event. Required items include a hat and gloves, waterproof jacket with taped seams and hood, waterproof trousers, full running tights, a minimum of 1 litre of fluid, headtorch, Cleveland Way or OS map, whistle, survival bag, foil blanket, emergency food and a charged mobile phone. Random kit checks will be made; failure to carry mandatory items can result in time penalties or disqualification.
Relay teams may comprise 2 to 4 runners, must provide vehicle backup and ensure each member runs through at least one checkpoint. Entry fees include the compulsory tracker. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
