Event Overview
The Hardmoors 55 is a 55-mile ultramarathon with 2,300 meters (7,545 ft) of ascent. It runs from Guisborough to Helmsley, primarily following the Cleveland Way National Trail across the North York Moors and Cleveland Hills. The event has a time limit of 16 hours.
Route and Checkpoints
The course starts at Guisborough Rugby Club and finishes at Helmsley Sports Club. It passes landmarks including Roseberry Topping and the 'Three Sisters'. There are six checkpoints along the route at:
- Roseberry Topping (6.5 miles)
- Kildale Village Hall (11 miles)
- Clay Bank (20 miles)
- Osmotherley Village Hall (30 miles)
- Sneck Yate Bank (39 miles)
- White Horse (44 miles)
Drop bag locations are at Kildale (11 miles) and Osmotherley (30 miles). A coach transfer is available before the race to take runners from the finish in Helmsley to the start in Guisborough.
Race Details and Rules
Registration takes place on race day at the start. An extensive mandatory kit list must be carried throughout the race, with spot checks enforced. Penalties for missing items range from time additions to disqualification. Support crews are not allowed, but one support runner is permitted from Sutton Bank to the finish.
The entry limit is 380 participants, including relay teams. A relay team option is available for 2-4 runners, with modified kit requirements. The entry fee includes a compulsory tracker. No refunds are given, but transfers to another runner or to the following year's event are possible under certain conditions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
