The Hardmoors 55
The Hardmoors 55 is a 55 mile ultramarathon from Guisborough to Helmsley that follows the North York Moors and the Cleveland Hills. The route covers mainly the Cleveland Way National Trail and has over 2700 m of ascent. Weather may be wintry.
The route is waymarked and includes checkpoints at Roseberry Topping, Kildale Village Hall (11 miles), Clay Bank (20 miles), Osmotherley Village Hall (30 miles), White Horse (44 miles) and a finish at Helmsley Sports Club. Runners must complete the course within a 16 hour overall time limit. Checkpoint cut offs are published for Kildale, Clay Bank, Osmotherley and White Horse and will be enforced.
Entry opens in May 2026 with an initial voucher-only window followed by general entry. Entry fees vary by date and category and include a compulsory OpenTracking tracker. A coach transfer from the finish to the start is available to booked competitors for a fee. Two non returnable drop bags are permitted at Kildale and Osmotherley and must be small.
The event is run unsupported with basic food and water provided at checkpoints and hot drinks at a minimum of two locations. A strict mandatory kit list must be carried for the whole race and spotchecks will be carried out; missing certain items can lead to time penalties or disqualification. Support crews are not allowed; one support runner may join from Sutton Bank to the finish but may not carry a competitor’s equipment. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
