The Hardmoors 55 - Event details
The Hardmoors 55 is a 55 mile ultramarathon on Saturday 21 March 2026, running from Guisborough to Helmsley through the North York Moors and the Cleveland Hills. The course has over 2700 m of ascent and is 95% on the Cleveland Way National Trail. Entry is open with an age minimum of 18. Entry fees vary by date and category, with a relay option. The entry fee includes a compulsory OpenTracking tracker. The organiser allows two non-returnable drop bags and provides basic food at some checkpoints and water at most checkpoints; hot drinks are available at a minimum of two checkpoints. The race is designed to be run unsupported.
Course, checkpoints, kit and rules
Key checkpoints include Roseberry Topping (6.5 miles), Kildale Village Hall (11 miles), Clay Bank (20 miles), Osmotherley Village Hall (30 miles), Sneck Yate Bank (35 miles), White Horse (44 miles) and the finish at Helmsley Sports Club. Cutoffs are set at each checkpoint; overall runners have 16 hours to complete the course. Two drop bag locations are Kildale and Osmotherley; finish bags are allowed.
There is a strict mandatory kit list that must be carried for the full race, including waterproof jacket with taped seams, waterproof trousers, hat and gloves, spare warm layer, headtorch, map, whistle, survival bag, foil blanket, emergency food and a charged mobile phone. Spotchecks will be carried out and penalties for missing items range from time penalties to disqualification.
