The Great Train Race
The Great Train Race in Fredericksburg, VA takes place on May 3, 2026 and has run for over 30 years. The event is organized for young runners under 18 and uses a course that begins near the Fredericksburg Train Station, runs through historic downtown, and finishes at the City Docks. A Race Festival is held in the commuter lot behind the train station and includes awards, music, vendors, and treats.
The event program includes the following distances:
- 1-mile Express - ages 6 to 17
- 1/2-mile George Dashington - ages 10 and under
- 1/4-mile Caboose Run - ages 5 and under
The Express and George Dashington races are chip timed. The Caboose Run is a fun run and will not be timed. All participants receive a finishers medal and a race shirt; shirts are only guaranteed for registrations completed before April 1.
