The Great Ferry Race
The Great Ferry Race is a half marathon that begins with participants walking onto a ferry in downtown Seattle, enjoying a scenic 35-minute crossing to Bainbridge Island, and then assembling on the car deck to walk off the ferry. The course starts on the ferry dock and takes runners around Bainbridge Island, passing through parks such as Grand Forest and Battle Point Park.
The route is a mix of road and groomed trail terrain, approximately three quarters road and one quarter trail, with about 1,400 feet of elevation gain. Five aid stations are spaced along the course and provide water, GU gels, and Tailwind electrolytes. The event is held cupless to reduce waste; runners are encouraged to use a handheld bottle, hydration pack, or a reusable cup.
Packet pickup differs for riders and non-riders: ferry riders collect their bib and ferry ticket at the ferry terminal table and receive shirts at the finish; participants not riding the ferry pick up bibs at the Winslow Ferry Terminal. Free gear check is available; bags can be dropped on the ferry car deck or at the registration tent for non-riders. Gear check bags are not provided.
Awards are given to the top three male, female, and non-binary finishers by gun time, plus age-group awards in five-year increments; awards must be picked up at the race. Walkers are welcome; dogs and strollers are not permitted. The race supports local charities including Kids In Concert, Bainbridge Youth Services, and Snake River Savers.
