The Gravel X Triathlon
The Gravel X Triathlon takes place on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Granite Beach, Folsom Lake State Recreation Area. The event includes lake swims, draft-legal off-road gravel bike sections, and single track trail running. Sprint and Olympic distances are USAT sanctioned and require a valid USAT membership number or a one-day racing license. A non USAT SUP/Kayak sprint distance triathlon is also offered. Both races include a commemorative finisher Gravel X race shirt.
Distances
- Sprint Gravel X Triathlon: 500 m swim; 15 km gravel bike; 5 km trail run
- Sprint SUP/Kayak Gravel X Triathlon: 1500 m SUP or kayak; 15 km gravel bike; 5 km trail run
- Olympic Gravel X Triathlon: 1000 m swim; 30 km gravel bike; 10 km trail run
The swim and SUP/Kayak courses start and finish at Granite Main Beach. Swim and SUP/Kayak rules prohibit hand paddles and floats. The transition area is located in the parking lot.
The bike course follows decomposed granite and dirt roads and trails, using much of the Granite Bay trail system, and passes through oak and pine forest. Time trial bicycles, aero bars, fixed gear and recumbent bicycles are prohibited; bar ends must be plugged. The run heads south along Granite Beach, follows the Pioneer Express Trail and includes a climb to the water tower atop Mooney Ridge. Run rules require that any carried equipment remain with the athlete for the entire course.
Packet pickup is available race morning at the venue. The event uses 10 year age divisions and Athena and Clydesdale categories. TBF Racing maintains a no refund policy; race credits and transfers are subject to specific fees and time limits. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
