30th Annual Fox & The Turkey Races
The Fox & The Turkey Races return to downtown Batavia for a 30th anniversary celebration on Thanksgiving Day. This community event, hosted by the Fox River Trail Runners, features two primary distances through local streets:
- 4 Mile Run/Walk
- 1 Mile Youth Race (12 years and under)
The 4 Mile course is an open-road event where participants share the roadway with vehicle traffic under the direction of police and marshals. A time cutoff is in effect; participants who do not reach the 1.5-mile mark by a designated time are diverted to a 3-mile course and become ineligible for age-group awards. The starting area uses a self-seeded arrangement where faster runners stay toward the front while walkers and participants with strollers remain toward the back.
Registered participants receive a custom finisher medal for the 4-mile race and a choice of event swag, including a lightweight tech hoodie, a knit stocking hat, or a running hat, subject to availability. The event serves as a fundraiser for the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry and Clothes Closet, with a portion of each registration fee donated to the organization. Non-perishable food donations are also collected during packet pickup and on the morning of the event.
Awards are presented to the top three male, female, and non-binary finishers in both races. The 4-mile race also includes masters categories and numerous age groups ranging from 14 and under to 75 and older. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
