The FIG
The FIG is an adventure race held in the Red River Gorge area near Slade, Kentucky, taking place on November 7, 2026. The event is in its 24th running and is described as Kentucky’s longest-running adventure race.
Racers can enter as solos or teams and choose between two cutoff lengths:
- 12 Hour option with navigation, mountain biking, trekking, and a ropes/via ferrata section.
- 24 Hour option with the same disciplines plus packrafting on moving water.
Disciplines listed for the event include navigating, biking, trekking, ropes, and packrafting (packrafting applies to the 24 Hour course only). The course includes a via ferrata section with fixed cables, iron rungs, ladders, and exposed sandstone; all mandatory gear for that section will be provided. Packrafting on moving water will include Class I–II sections; racers may bring their own packrafts or use partner rental providers.
The event is USARA sanctioned and the 24 Hour FIG serves as a USARA Regional Qualifier; the winning mixed-gender 3/4-person team earns guaranteed entry to the USARA National Championship and an $800 nationals race credit, and finishing teams receive a 5-point national ranking bonus.
