The Rugged Red Trail Half Marathon
The Rugged Red Trail Half Marathon is an annual trail running event located in Slade, Kentucky. The race takes place within the scenic Red River Gorge area on a looping course situated on private property. The event supports local search and rescue teams that operate within the region.
Participants can choose from the following event options:
- Half Marathon: A 13.1 mile trail race with a time limit of 5.5 hours.
- Virtual Half Marathon: A 13.1 mile remote option for those who wish to complete the distance on their own schedule and location.
The course features five water stations along the route. This is a cup-less race, and participants are required to bring their own water bottles or hydration systems. The event includes professional photography, medical support for post-race massages, and a raffle.
Finishers receive a commemorative long-sleeved performance shirt and a custom medal. Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers overall, as well as the top three finishers in age divisions ranging from under 19 to over 70. Post-race amenities provided to participants include coffee, a meal, and a beer for those of legal age. Accommodations are available at the Natural Bridge Campground, which serves as the race venue.
