The Emergency Mile
The Emergency Mile is a one-day community event in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, on May 7, 2026, held on Progress Drive. The event offers one-mile run and walk options and a dedicated Rockcastle County first responder entry on a nearly level one-mile course.
General registration opens April 1 and closes April 22. The standard registration fee through April 22 is $20 and includes an event t-shirt when registered by that date. After April 22 the registration fee increases to $25 through race day and shirts are not guaranteed. Registration for the free first responder entry remains open through race day; first responder registration is free for local police, sheriff, corrections, fire, and ambulance personnel, with a free shirt if registered by April 22.
Students age 4 to 18 are eligible to participate at no cost; student registration does not include a shirt but a shirt may be added for an additional fee. Students who complete at least seven races in the Student Strides 2026 series will receive a $25 gift card and a custom t-shirt at the end of the series. Students must run or walk to be eligible for awards and incentives.
Awards include overall male and female winners, top three male and female finishers in multiple age groups, top three fastest male and female walkers, and awards for the fastest first responder male and female. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
