The Emergency Mile
The Emergency Mile is a one-mile run and walk in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, held May 21, 2026 on Progress Drive. The course is described as nearly level and the event honors Rockcastle County first responders.
The program includes a 1-mile run, a 1-mile walk, and a dedicated first responder division. Registration opens April 1, 2026. Base registration is $20 and registrations received by May 6 include a guaranteed event t-shirt. After May 6 the fee increases to $25 through race day and shirts are not guaranteed. Rockcastle County first responders register for free; a free shirt is included for responders who register by May 6. All students age 4 to 18 may participate at no cost; student registrations do not include a shirt unless one is added for an extra fee. Students who complete at least seven races in the Student Strides 2026 series are eligible for a $25 gift card and a custom t-shirt at the end of the series.
Awards are given to overall male and female winners, the top three male and female finishers in multiple age groups, the top three fastest male and female walkers, and the fastest first responder in male and female divisions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
