The Emergency Mile
The Emergency Mile takes place on May 7, 2026 in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky on Progress Drive. The event features one-mile run and walk options and includes specific categories for Rockcastle County first responders and for students.
Registration opens April 1. Standard paid entry is $20 if registered by April 22 and includes an event t-shirt when registered by that date. After April 22 the entry fee increases to $25 and shirts are not guaranteed. Rockcastle County first responders may register free. Students ages 4 to 18 may register free; student registration does not include a shirt but a shirt may be added for an additional fee. Paid registration closes April 22. First responder and student registration remain open through May 7.
Awards are offered for overall male and female winners, and for the top three male and female runners in each age group: 12 and under; 13 to 19; 20 to 29; 30 to 39; 40 to 49; 50 to 59; 60 to 69; 70 to 79; 80 and over. Additional awards include the top three fastest male and female walkers and special recognition for the fastest first responder, male and female.
As part of the Student Strides series, students who complete at least seven races in 2026 receive a $25 gift card and a custom t-shirt at the end of the series. Students must run or walk to be eligible for awards and incentives. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
